We have already talked about the main fire detection systems we work with at Triple E – EEESA. However, in the field of fire extinguishing there are also several options of systems, which we will explain today and which we at Triple E activate using our electronics.
Water mist fire extinguishing
This is perhaps one of the simplest and most effective methods of extinguishing fires. It consists of the dispersion of small particles of water in the area affected by the fire. It can also be used as a method to control and protect flammable areas or areas at risk of fire, preventing, for example, the spread of flames.
Specifically, this system is based on evaporation. When the micro-droplets of water come into contact with the heat of the flames, they turn into steam, absorbing a significant amount of the fire’s energy. Water mist has a triple effect: it cools the flames, smothers the fire and protects nearby areas, preventing the fire from spreading. This extinguishing device is located in the passenger lounge.
Aerosol fire extinguishing
This system, used in watertight areas and isolated technical areas, is based on the very fine discharge of potassium salts. When released, this material interrupts combustion, favouring extinguishing by saturating the environment, without reducing the oxygen in it.
Aerosol extinguishing is a very environmentally friendly and economical system. In addition, it does not damage the material that comes into contact with it, and the residue is easy to dispose of.
AFFF fire extinguishing equipment on trains
This fire extinguishing method is used to extinguish fires involving liquid fuels (such as oils, petroleum, etc.) and is therefore found in engines. It works as follows: when the foam falls on the fire, it cools it down. In turn, it coats the fuel, which shields the fire from oxygen, finally putting out the fire.
Remember that at Triple E-EEESA we have a team of engineers who carry out the electronic activation system for each of the extinguishing methods described according to the established parameters.
